Nerve pain due to a scarring is treated regularly at Cheltenham Podiatry. Our podiatrists are experts in treating these conditions. Nerve Pain from a scar is often described as extreme sensations (often sharp shooting, burning pain, tingling). Often due to surgery or an injury. The trauma causes the nerve to stick to fascia layers, leaves the nerve inflamed, and entrapped causing the symptoms. In the past, treatment options have been limited to strong pain medication  that can often have unwanted side effects. The outside of the ankle often used for arthroscope and thus is a common site for scaring.

Here at Cheltenham podiatry, we are passionate in providing latest techniques that are safer and  side-effect-free. To resolve this pain photobiomodulation ( infra red and red laser light), and various injection therapies, including perineural injection therapy(also known as lyftogt PIT), and nerve hydrodissection can be performed.

Photobiomodulation can reduce inflammation and pain and help heal damaged nerves.

Perineural Injection therapy-(Lyftogt PIT) is a dynamic and innovative regenerative treatment,  a form of prolotherapy involving a medical grade 5% dextrose solution injected subcutaneously. It’s safe, simple , usually only requiring between 1-3 sessions for scars, and is usually the fastest way to resolve pain.

In some cases, nerve hydro dissection, a more recently developed technique- where an ultrasound guided high volume injection usually of 5% dextrose’s, releases the nerve form scar tissue, and compressive forces.  This is used often used for deeper scaring.
